Established

Established

The Timoney Company was established in 1967 in Fitzwilliam Lane, the home of Timoney during its early years. At the time, the building was part of University College Dublin, where Seamus Timoney was Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

Free Piston Engines

Free Piston Engines

Initially, the company focused on free piston engines and associated systems. Because these engines has no crankshaft, there is no rotary motion to drive a fan, this ejector system was developed whereby exhaust gases inducted cooling air over the engine.

Irish APC

Irish APC

The first Timoney APC was developed in Fitzwilliam Lane in 1972. Follow on orders for 5 petrol and 5 diesel variants were received from the Irish Government over several years.

Move to Gibbstown

Move to Gibbstown

A move to larger premises (Adtec Teoranta) in Co. Meath provided the room and facilities needed for production of the vehicles and associated driveline systems.

BDX Licence

BDX Licence

Based on the APC’s originally designed for the Irish Government, Timoney and Behermen Demeon (Belgium) negotiated a license to build the vehicle for a local requirement. This significant milestone was an early example of a Timoney technology transfer program.

Arianne Rockets

Arianne Rockets

A contract to manufacture fueling valves for the European Space Agency Ariane rocket allowed Timoney to demonstrate our high precision capabilities. To this day, our quality system is based on this expertise.

Aer Rianta FCT’s

Aer Rianta FCT’s

One of the early Timoney Fire Crash Tenders (FCT) delivered to Aer Rianta for Shannon Airport. The first vehicle in its weight class with independent suspension, this vehicle paved the way for Timoney to win future export orders.

US Air Force

US Air Force

Under licence from Timoney, Teledyne Inc. and Emergency One were awarded a contract to supply 250 8x8 vehicles to the US Air Force. The opportunity to engage in series production was a pivotal moment for Timoney to build upon.

CM31

CM31

Timoney developed the CM31 6x6 vehicle for Taiwan, initially building 1 prototype in Ireland and another prototype in Taiwan, with a view to eventually licensing local production. The project restarted in 2001 as the 8x8 Cloud Leopard vehicle and is now in production.

Bushmaster

Bushmaster

The primary role of the Bushmaster vehicle is to safeguard soldiers’ lives. Timoney staff ensured a smooth transfer of intellectual property through extensive in-country support. With over 1,100 vehicles in service, this has been our most successful technology transfer program.

S-Car

S-Car

Our first of many projects with Singapore Technologies, Timoney brought the vehicle to Ireland to upgrade the performance of the vehicle with a new power pack and new rear suspension.

ATTC / BRONCO

ATTC / BRONCO

Timoney designed the power pack, front and rear axle assemblies and final drives for this tracked vehicle. For the production variant we supplied all the drivelines into STELS and worked on 8 of the variants.

87150

87150

Our 87150 independent suspension system for off road applications isolates road forces, ensuring maximum load stability and driver comfort. SAE Off-Highway Engineering Magazine announced this product as “One of Top Twenty Products of 2004”.

Spinner

Spinner

The first of four projects with the National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC), Spinner was the world’s first greater than 6 to cross country UGCV. The innovative Timoney suspension design allowed the vehicle to operate when inverted position.

AV81

AV81

Working closely with STELS engineers based in Ireland, Timoney designed and assembled the first Terrex 8x8 prototype vehicle. Our extensive network of suppliers and partners enabled us to engineer systems still in use to this day.

UDLP Pegasus

UDLP Pegasus

The UDLP Pegasus project was another example of Timoney working closely with clients to rapidly develop a prototype. A rolling chassis was designed and built in Ireland, then shipped to UDLP to be fitted with hybrid drive and a titanium hull.

Dakar Rally

Dakar Rally

Several Dakar Rally teams used modified versions of the Timoney 87150 suspension system. The modifications enabled the vehicles to operate at greatly increased maximum speed. Drivers described travelling in these vehicle as like being “on a magic carpet”.

6T Driveline

6T Driveline

Based on AV81, STELS produced a new variant called iTERREX. Timoney designed a new driveline for the vehicle, including Double Wishbone and McPherson suspension configurations. Produced by STELS under licence.

Gladiator TUGV

Gladiator TUGV

Tactical UGV for Office of Naval Research/U.S. Marine Corps in partnership with NREC

IFS

IFS

The Timoney STRIDER Independent Front Suspension (IFS) is designed primarily for on-highway applications in the United States.

Crusher

Crusher

Crusher represented the next generation of the original Spinner platform.  Crusher offers more mobility, reliability, maintainability, and flexibility than Spinner.

ADT Axle

ADT Axle

Our patented ADT axle was launched in this year. Produced under licence to this day.

APD

APD

The next generation of Crusher, APD is a 9-ton, skid steer UGV with extreme off road mobility. A complete redesign of Timoney product was required in order to meet the vehicle specification, including an80kph top speed.

RMMV Wisent

RMMV Wisent

Designed as a multi-purpose vehicle, Timoney developed and supplied driveline solutions for the RMMV Wisent vehicle. With this driveline, the vehicle broke test track speed records during prototype testing.

T900 Driveline

T900 Driveline

The T900 driveline was designed as a modular system for a variety of vehicle types and applications. Over 1,000 axles have been manufactured since T900 was launched in 2010.

New Office

New Office

Our state of the art, purpose built office, was opened in 2012. The workshop area includes a durability test rig for testing and validation of Timoney product.

EDT Enigma

EDT Enigma

Working closely with the customer and suppliers, Timoney designed and developed the Enigma vehicle, which was unveiled at IDEX in 2015.

L400

L400

Another example of Timoney rapidly developing a prototype, we were contracted to design and assemble two rolling chassis’, both delivered on schedule. With Timoney focusing on the automotive requirements, our client could focus on the other key systems for this competitive tender.

T700 Driveline

T700 Driveline

The T700™ was jointly developed by Timoney and Texelis, combining the best of Timoney’s independent suspension expertise with differentials and wheel hubs from a range of proven rigid axles.

Yugoimport Lazar

Yugoimport Lazar

The Lazar 8x8 drivetrain is based on our T900 driveline with Timoney designed transfer case and steering system.

Lockheed Martin ACV

Lockheed Martin ACV

2 of the 4 contenders for USMC ACV 1.1 were developed around Timoney drivelines. Timoney helped Lockheed Martin with its submission when LM’s relationship with another partner could not proceed.

STELS ACV

STELS ACV

2 of the 4 contenders for USMC ACV 1.1 were developed around Timoney drivelines. The STELS submission, in partnership with SAIC, was a further development of the Terrex family of vehicles. This vehicle progressed to EMD phase.

Celebrating 50 years

Celebrating 50 years

2017 gave us the opportunity to celebrate our 50 years in business with customers and colleagues.

Yugoimport Milos

Yugoimport Milos

The Milos 4x4 drivetrain is based on our T700 driveline with Timoney designed steering system.

Ridgback/Mastiff

Ridgback/Mastiff

For this project we integrated our T900 state-of-the-art independent suspension system and steering systems onto the vehicles. Fully functional prototype vehicles were delivered in just over 80 working days, in the middle of a global pandemic.
